"The future of libraries has little to do with books?"

In light of the drastic funding cuts threatening libraries all over the country, and in the aftermath of the Sieghart review, this article we came across echoes the view of many that libraries need to reimagine themselves as 'community hubs', become wifi-enabled public work spaces and forget about fusty old books: http://magazine.good.is/articles/public-libraries-reimagined

Wifi is always useful these days, of course, and public libraries are more important than ever as places that welcome the whole community. But as book lovers, we love the aura that books create in library spaces, making them places of imaginative sanctuary, as well as the physical experience of reading books. Our project seeks to transform library spaces in new and creative ways amongst the books. What do you think of libraries and the future? Please message us – we’d love to know.
